Q&A: Let’s Get Familiar

Thanks to everyone who sent their questions via Twitter and email. I loved answering them, and I hope you enjoy reading the answers. Let’s get familiar!

Why did you start a Travel Blog?Β

I started theufuoma.com because I really wanted to become a better writer and what better way to ensure that than writing regularly? Also, I get to share my travel journey with people with the hopes that they are inspired to start theirs.

What triggered your love for traveling?

I went to Peru and saw the beautiful Machu Picchu and since then, I have been in love with places not yet seen. I am a very curious person and I really thrive on feeding on new information and travel gives me that and more.

You can read more about how I made this discovery in one of my reader’s favorites here.

Ghanaian Jollof v Nigerian Jollof?

Nigerian Jollof for life, and afterlife!

What do you think about Jamaicans?Β

I think they are crazy people but crazy good. They wear their heart on their sleeves.

Drake or Eminem?Β

Haha. Eminem.

What are your thoughts on a woman proposing to a man?

Hmmm. I’ll say, do what makes you happy as long as it isn’t harmful and if that involves getting down on one knee, ring-in-hand and asking your man to marry you, go for it girl.

Where is your favorite place in the world?Β

Lagos, Nigeria. There really is no place like home and I can’t wait to visit again.

What are some of the fascinating things you have done?

I think leaving my comfort territory, a good job and going for a Global Masters degree that made me live out of a suitcase everyday for one year was pretty awesome. I also completed a three-day Inca-Trail that led up to Machu Picchu, Peru- truly life changing!

Are you Engaged?Β

Haha. No.

What’s something that you regret doing?

I don’t have any regrets. If I knew better, I would have done better. I believe I am always doing my best. My best today might be ridiculously stupid ten years from now, but at the end of the day, that is only a testament to my growth.

What would you like to pass on to your children?Β

Wow. I have never thought about this. Well, I hope I pass on my curiosity and discerning spirit. That said, I need to go back and think about this question again.

Do you think you will ever stop traveling?

I don’t think I will ever totally stop traveling but I can imagine that as I get older, I will prefer some more stability, you know? Settle down in a city and relish the memories I have made over the past years. Maybe one or two trips per year? We never know.

What inspires your writing style?

My English teacher. Shout out to Mrs Duru. Haha! No but I think I write the way I speak, just a lot more filtered because I wouldn’t want to flood this blog with my crazy Nigerian slangs, you know?

What country have you visited that you like the most?Β

I really really loved Peru. It was such an amazing and cultural experience for me. The food and the people? Awesome! It also gave me a chance to learn a new language, so yes. I liked Spain too.

What does β€œHalf Global, Half Nigerian” mean?

It is Half Nigerian, Half Global* More than anything else, the name is very futuristic and reminds me of my goals. I want to remain fully Nigerian while being a global citizen. There is a big, big world beyond my colony and I want to continue to develop a global mindset and become a citizen of the world.

One item you cannot do without?Β

It has to be a competition between my cell phone and hair extensions. I think I’ll say hair extensions because, you know, this African hair has refused to grow. Lol.

  2. I like the half Nigerian half global name! Great answers too.

My question is, what are your thoughts on inter-country/inter tribal/ inter racial marriages. You mentioned that you want to remain fully Nigerian, does that mean you are not open to marrying/interacting with a non-nigerian? Just curious. If you are not comfortable with this question, you can skip it.

    1. Thanks Dan!
I have absolutely no problem with inter-tribal or inter-racial marriages. I love seeing inter racial couples that are making it work. Might be hard work, but which marriage isn’t anyway? As long as the foundation is great, no problem!

About remaining fully Nigerian, I guess that part may have been a little confusing? What I meant is, I want to develop a global mindset but not in a way that dampens my “nigerian-ness” or my cultural values or roots. Basically master the balancing act. I hope this clarifies things.

Thanks for asking and for stopping by πŸ™‚
