Typically, when one visits the idyllic island of Barbados, they are often whisked away to the turquoise Caribbean waters and powdery white sand beaches on the west side of the country. International marketing strategies tend to use this as their go-to method for luring sun worshippers to the Caribbean gem. Often too little (or not at all) does Barbados ever receive recognition for its rugged Atlantic coastline and the beauty it has offer. One particular hotel has been trying to change the narrative since 1887.

The Crane, one of Barbados’ most exclusive properties, is at the forefront of showcasing the west side of the island. Situated on a cliff, high above Crane Beach, is the hotel property which is home to 17 different suite types. All suites type are lavishly appointed so no matter your budget, you’re sure to feel that you got your money’s worth. After visiting so many countries and countless resorts, I can truly appreciate when a beautiful hotel is located near the airport; as is the case with The Crane. It is only a 10-12 minute drive which makes it a top choice for anyone wanting to just check-in as soon as they land in Barbados.

Having been established since 1887, one can easily see that customer service has been deeply rooted in their staff culture for the 132 years that they’ve been open. And yes, they’ve been open for this long but originally the resort wasn’t so grand. It started off with one building (that is still in service) and the rest of the property was eventually built around it. Guests who are looking for that authentic, classic Crane stay can still book one of these original rooms. The rooms don’t have a/c so it is something to keep in mind but you’ll have quick and easy access to easily my favourite pool on the resort.

As a traveler who seeks amazing views, I can assure you this. The view from the breakfast restaurant is sublime! What I loved most was that they offer a wrap around balcony where you can opt to have breakfast and just gaze at the wonderfully blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean as they crash against Crane Beach. Oh, and did I mention that the cliff backdrop is just a stunner? I was more than satisfied with nature’s eye candy from there. The great tasting breakfast was just the cherry on top for me.

The Crane is designed to give visitors a reason not to leave the property. Even if you want to go shopping, well, The Crane has a village for that too! The Crane Village is an area where guests can go shopping for general items, jewelry, souvenirs and more. The inviting village makes it seem like you are in a quaint town.

After a stay at The Crane, it’s understandable to not want to go back home! For anyone looking for a more permanent stay, The Crane now has Private Residences that one may find a home to purchase right on the property! The Private Residences is a private residential community and it’s one of The Crane’s newest developments. Just ask the front desk about it and they’ll gladly have someone come showcase the residences to you.

Standards and expectations were not only just met, they were exceeded by The Crane. They’ve now raised the bar in my mind for hotel customer service in not only Barbados, but the world. They’ve had the touch since 1887 and it shows!
