If you haven’t reached out for it, or worn it in at least 365 days, chances are you do not need it and it is time to go. Doing a closet sale is not only great for decluttering your home, it can also be a source of extra income that you can put aside towards your travels.

  • Participate in a no-spend challenge

We live in such a consumerist society that forces us to buy things that we sometimes do not even need. Try going on a no-spend challenge for about a week, you’ll be surprised how much money you are able to save.

  • Get a piggy bank

Piggy banks are fun ways to save your loose change. If you need extra help, you can put it in your living room and label it “travel fund” so your visitors can chip in too.

  • Start a side hustle/project

For extra income, you can start a side hustle and profitable project. It is always advisable to have multiple income streams and this will come in handy if your dreams include traveling to an exciting new destination.

  • Go ATM/Debit card free for a week

After all is said and done, staying home from time to time and “avoiding” expenses can prove effective, as long as you are not whipping out your credit card for some online shopping.

  1. I try to save before I spend. So I set up a preauthorised transfer to my savings account as soon as I get paid. That way I save more instead of spending and saving only change.
